If Ashanti has anything to do with it, you just know it’s going to be good, good vibes. And that’s exactly the deal with “I Just Wanna Know”, the brand new song from London-hailed rising star Alicai Harley – who is making waves with her body-moving brand of dancehall-infused pop.
Sampling Ashanti’s always iconic, and instantly recognisable “Leaving (Always On Time Part II)”, the track pays homage to the beloved era of 00s R&B, with unstoppable newcomer Harley making slick transitions between honeyed vocals and fiery rap spits. With addictive lyricism to boot, the track is a certified nod to her versatility, that much is clear.
And the accompanying visuals are a kaleidoscopic fever dream of matching outfits, fur bralets (of course), and silky backdrops. It’s nostalgia to the max here.
“This song reminds me of my younger self… back when I was rapping,” explains Harley. ‘That’s what I wanted to bring back. And it’s touching on real subjects, on a real relationship. I wanted this to feel like my own version of 50 Cent’s ‘21 Questions.’”
