There are certain songs that have the ability to instantly have you locked in your feels. One such example is the emotive new track from Birmingham-hailed producer, songwriter and artist Matt Ryder.
Nostalgia and melancholy seep out of the bars of “Not The Same” – which laments the loss of privacy in a modern, social media-driven world where “falling in love with somebody / is not like it used to be”. And sonically, simmering synths pace the languid rhythm of the lo-fi electronic-meets-indie track.
“I felt like I was constantly overthinking everything I was doing and saying, even the thoughts I had I would overthink,” explains Ryder, “it was encouraged by the teenage society I was involved with. You can never really have a private life when you’re young.”
The cinematic music video sees Ryder take to the woods for respite from all the noise – a haunting accompaniment to the track.
