Effortlessly combining mesmerising melodies with a fresh electronic production is Toronto-hailed singer-songwriter Alex Porat, with her bouncy new single “never say ily again”. Following up from her dreamy-pop single “happy for you”, Porat cheekily laments on past relationships over a playful production for a lighthearted indie tune. Accompanied by a whimsical 90s-inspired video directed by Iris Kim, Porat dances in various hyper-pigmented scenes as she boldly sings, “I heard you doing shitty now / put a smile on my face/ One year, two months, three days/damn what a waste.”

Speaking on the tune, Porat said, “It felt like the right thing to pair this sad feeling with a fun upbeat song. I usually use humour to cope with pain and sadness so it felt very real the way the track is the opposite of what I’m trying to say. I’m a dramatic person at times especially when it feels like the end of the world so this song is a great reminder that any negative feelings that I’ve felt in the past are temporary and they do go away. What’s life without a couple ups and downs, you know?”

Having landed a spot on Amazon Music 2020 Artist to Watch list with her her debut single “only hanging out cause i’m lonely”, Porat has confidently made her introduction as a songwriter and an artist and we’re curious to see what else she’ll bring to the table.
