Atlanta resident Rex Evans reveals the luminous visuals for his latest single “Changes”, filmed at the iconic Cascade skating rink. Nurtured by Southern culture and repping a musical pioneer for a mother, Evans pulls inspiration from a diverse range of musicians including Prince, Cameo and The Weeknd. Rex Evans is an intriguing new talent and a breath of fresh air to the hip-hop scene.
In “Changes”, the ethereal chorus of H.E.R’s “I Won’t” is woven into the background alongside a pulsing hip-hop trap beat and pop-infused synths. Evans perfectly creates a multilayered and melodically rich soundscape, backed by relatable lyricism. He sings about the familiar notion of going through changes in a relationship and finally seeing the other person for who they truly are.
Speaking on the track, he explains: “Changes embodies that moment when you realise the one you had love for has changed in a way that opens your eyes to seeing the person you knew before is no longer there and all the efforts you put in to get back to them were a waste.”
