Robyn, Tove Lo and The Cardigans: the singer-songwriter has curated his playlist of Swedish pop poetry.
“It’s pretty mad how this little country Sweden can make so much good music.” An assertion from Swedish singer-songwriter Brother Leo that we can certainly get behind.
And it’s true. Over the years, the likes of ABBA, Neneh Cherry and more have hailed from the illustrious Scandinavian nation – including dance-pop artist Brother Leo (aka Ola Nils Håkan Svensson).
And now, with tracks from Robyn (we stan!), Tove Lo, and the beyond iconic Cardigans, Brother Leo has curated a playlist featuring some of his favourite bands, artists and songs from Sweden.
Robyn – “With Every Heartbeat”
One of the best pop songs ever made… Been a big Robyn fan for years! A couple of years ago I was working with Kleerup who wrote it with Robyn and he played me the first demo of the song and it was like stepping inside of pop history for 4 minutes.
Augustine – “Luzon”
Just found this guy and I’m just blown away. For some reason he’s soundscape and vocals puts me in a place I’ve never been before.
Peter Björn and John – “Young Folks”
This one will never get old to me. One of those songs I’ll probably will be listening to forever. I’ve worked a bit with Björn Yttling who’s probably my favourite producer on the planet and also got the most vibey studio there is. Can’t wait to put those songs out there..
Neiked – “Sexual”
I remember the first time I heard this song. I felt it brought something fresh to the normal kind of pop radio vibe. The sound and placement of the live base I think or I know made a lot of producers change their productions after this one blew up.
The Cardigans – “My Favourite Game”
One of the biggest Swedish bands of all time and one of my favourite voices. Whatever she sings I believe in it!
Mapei – “Don’t Wait”
Genius production! Sick vocals! Deserves to be a lot bigger!
Miike Snow – “Animal”
One of my favourite bands and favourite songs. Just love how they mix a lot of different vibes and sounds creating their own thing. Also go check out the Mark Ronson remix on it.
Jenny Wilson – “The Future”
The first time i heard this one, it just blew my mind. Raw and honest! The message gives me chills. Check out the video.
Tove Lo – “Timebomb”
Just love the epic Prince vibe to this one!
Teddybears – “Cobrastyle”
Iconic Swedish bears who’s been some kind of soundtrack to a big part of my life.
