WONDERLIST

We’ve got music for you whatever your mood in this week’s playlist.

Don Toliver – “Heaven or Hell”

Don Toliver has quickly established himself as one of hip-hop’s rising stars with the release of his 2018 mixtape Donny Womack. The Houston rapper has received major co-signs from The Weeknd, Sheck Wes, and Travis Scott who ultimately signed him to his trap rap collective label Cactus Jack Records. The “No Idea” rapper dropped his debut album Heaven or Hell today and we are not disappointed, with the album including features from a wide variety of trap alumni such as label mate Sheck Wes, Migos rapper Quavo and of course Mr Travis Scott. Heaven or Hell takes you on a journey of retro-futuristic R&B and psychedelic choruses, and Toliver takes us to Church in the album opener: “Well, what brings you to church this evening? / Fightin’ love, fightin’ hate or you’re frighten’ your demons?” Setting the tone for the album, his silky smooth vocals glide over ominous trap beats. Standout track “Candy” is a mix of rock and trap with guitar solos over a whimsical trap beat. Its catchy chorus “candy couldn’t be so sweet” will be on repeat in your head for hours, and many a Tik Tok is sure to be created to the synth-inspired bridge.

Octavian ft Skepta – “Papi Chulo”

Following their hard-hitting UK hit remix of “Bet” last year, two of the UK’s most standout MCs Skepta and Octavian are back with this sexy brand new track “Papi Chulo”. Produced by one of the biggest producers in hip-hop, BricksDaMane, the hit features flutes and mariachi guitar samples for a Latin American feel as well as 808 baselines hitting through on every other beat. The “Shutdown” rapper opens the track and instantly commands attention with his distinctive and unique flow. Octavian follows with a calmer and more sultry flow on his verse spitting on his lothario ways and becoming a “Papi Chulo”.

DaniLeigh ft DaBaby – “Levi High”

DaniLeigh has been building up her repertoire in the industry for quite a while now with her breakout hit “Lil Baby” in 2019 propelling her to international fame. And now the LA-based choreographer is back with everyone favourite baby, DaBaby for this modern pop hit “Levi High”. We’re all over the inviting smooth vocals and a feature from one of the arguably hottest rappers in the game. DaniLeigh is known for her outstanding choreography and we just can’t wait for an incredibly flawless video to accompany her new song.

iLL Blu ft Bandokay & Double LZ – “Magic”

One of London’s hottest based production duo’s iLL BLU have unveiled their new single and video for “Magic” featuring Tottenham’s OFB collectives Bandokay and Double LZ. The track takes samples from Sticky’s “Triplets”, bridging the gap between UK garage and today’s UK drill sound. Bandokay and Double LZ combine ferocious mic skills with their unmistakable feature on the iLL BLU’s hard-hitting beat. The production duo have continued to push the envelope since 2008, shopping the UK Funky sound through their work on Princess Nyah’s anthem “Frontline”. More recently the duo were the masterminds behind the hit song “Chop My Money” featuring Krept & Konan, ZieZie and Loski and it’s clear that the duo never fail to produce a hit.

Deb Never – “Stone Cold”

She featured in our Winter issue and now she’s back with another hit “Stone Cold”. The LA-based artist pays homage to Stone Cold Steve Austin of American wrestling fame. In typical nonchalant fashion, Deb Never cleverly redefines the “tough guy” American icon, over a spiky, infectious baseline. Her raw and complex lyrics are enticing and will have you lost in a dream space with her boundless and charming lyrics. The accompanying video sees a buffed-out Deb go to toe-to-toe with a Steve Austin-inspired wrestler.

Nick Leng – “Music to Clean the House to”

Well, you better add this to your Sunday playlist as Nick Leng’s new single gives us easy weekend vibes with his new feel-good song. Belting out the emotional lyrics. Who, us? The artist weaves rich sonic soundscapes capable of moving you physically and emotionally, with the track accompanied by a stunning music video which opens the doorway into his much anticipated LP Lemons.

Heavn – “Feelings”

We premiered her brand new single “Feelings” earlier this week and we just can’t get enough. The powerful synth-pop singer Heavn is back with her fourth single “Feelings” and it embraces the energy of indie rock with dashes of alternative R&B. The dark synth beat pulls the listener in, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself entranced by the catchy and mesmerising flow.
