Thom Browne has taken co-ordinating with your partner to the next level for his AW20 collection. The landmark presentation featured both the designer’s men’s and women’s collection for the first time ever, and it did not disappoint. 33 identical bunny-eared preppy couples walked the Parisian runaway with matching animal bags – something we never knew we needed until now.
The designer broke barriers with gender roles reversed: male models walking in women’s pieces and female models walked in men’s styles. The style of the collection took us back to preppy college days with pleated checkered dresses, and red, blue and white pinstripe suits making us nostalgic for our school days.
Famed for his reconceptualisation of the classic men’s suit, Browne twisted and turned his signature style in every way possible with images of animals, to a puffer style blazer that every college kid is going to need this winter. It became clear after every couple walking the runway that there was a running theme in this collection. Noah’s Ark. The biblical story ran throughout the “Winter Wonderland” themed show with the couples all coming out two by two and animal references were made throughout the collection. A new focus after last season’s inspiration was seeped in macaroons and references to cake queen Marie Antoinette.
