Long has underwear as outerwear pervaded our wardrobes. Bralets, corsets. We’ll bite. But the latest flesh-baring trend championed by Y/Project is very much only for the brave, and throws it back to poster-girl Christina Aguilera in leather chaps for her 2002 “Dirrty” music video. The exposed G-string. Teeny tiny straps poking out at the hips. All the rage at AW20 collection shown at the grand Lafayette Galleries in Paris.
Known for his conceptual and inventive detailing, Creative Director Glenn Marten played with proportions, with witty takes on historical references. Who would have thought it, but our new wardrobe priority is crotch cut-outs, which featured heavily on the runway and gave a cheeky twist on, well, everything. Blue jeans? Check. Long skirts styled with high-cut velvet bodysuits? Check check.
Elsewhere, vibrant floor-sweeping sheer dresses were matched with peekaboo thongs, and crocodile-effect suits gave us straight from the office to the club vibes. The show was closed with a dramatic and eye-catching model wearing a Maleficent. Something wicked this way comes.
