Since first making waves with eternal carnival jam “Hoity Toity” in 2017, Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter Alex Mali has been carving out her own space at the forefront of the R&B scene. Packed with atmospheric tracks and sultry slow jams, her highly-anticipated debut EP “Sweet & Sour” arrived two weeks ago to cement her position as one of the most exciting emerging artists in the city.
Today, Mali drops the visuals for “Start It Up”, the second track on the project and a self-bolstering warning to anyone looking to waste her time in love. “‘Start It Up’ is about having your guard up when it comes to relationships and romance”, she explains, “for fear of getting your heart broken…”
Featuring the best array of neon looks we’ve seen in one place in forever (not to mention her signature lurid green hair), the park-filmed video feels as relaxed and playful as Mali’s music.
