50 years ago, on July 21 1969, history was made when man first walked on the Moon. In the early hours of the morning, Commander Neil Armstrong became the first human to step foot on the lunar surface, followed by lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin 19 minutes later. When they spoke to President Nixon after planting the US flag on that monumental morning, Armstrong described the event as “representing not only the United States, but men of peace of all nations, and with interest and curiosity, and men with a vision for the future.”

It is towards the future that we will be looking throughout this project. Partnering with Omega – whose watches Armstrong and Aldrin wore during the Apollo 11 Moon Landing – we are looking at the acts who are breaking new ground in their fields and in their own way striving to create a new vision for the future. Each of them pioneering forces in the 2019 music scene, these four artists are breaking down barriers and changing their craft through their ingenuity and creativity.

Check out Omega’s Speedmaster Moonwatch Collection and meet our second visionary, Shura, below.

Voyager one name: Aleksandra Lilah Denton (Shura)

DOB: 17-06-91

Occupation: Mother of Kittens

Definition: “Trying to explain what’s going on in my brain through the medium of song”

What makes you different? I’m not sure that I am.

How are you shaping the future? Writing incidentally queer love songs for anyone and everyone.

How are you breaking new ground? I used to write about heartbreak, because my heart was broken, but things have changed so I’m in uncharted territory. Wish me luck.

Who is your main source of inspiration? It’s hard to pick just one but since we’re talking about space, Valentina Tereshkova.

How have they inspired you? She worked in a textile factory and then became the first woman in space. If that’s not inspiring, I’m not sure what is.

How do they continue to inspire you? To be brave. Sometimes the things that scare us the most are the things we definitely should be doing. Not always though.

What are the main things that you’ve learnt from them? That even though I didn’t do a degree in rocket science I could technically survive in space given the right training/equipment.

How would you like to inspire others? I’d like it if people were inspired to be themselves unequivocally. Or at the very least to make great hat choices.
