An addictive pop bop from the Glasgow-born newcomer letting us know it’s OK to be a little bit messy.

You’ve just woken up face down on top of your duvet. Ferocious headache, sunlight streaming in, and the faint recollection of some ill-advised text messages sent in the early hours of the morning (after some light investigation – it’s confirmed, and with a few rogue phone calls thrown in for good measure). If you’re all too familiar with this scenario, Glasgow-born singer Hannah Slavin feels you.

But rather than wallowing in that all-consuming post-night-out existential crisis, the pop newcomer is embracing it, and asking you to do the same with her addictive track, “I Am A Mess”.

Upbeat, honest, and rooted by a catchy chorus that has real self-accepting daily affirmation vibes to it – listen and try not to feel a smile coming.

And the vibrant visuals see Slavin, drink in hand, inflatable crown on, having all the fun, night after night, telling us to fuck it, and throw caution to the wind. Drinks on us tonight.

“I wrote ‘I Am A Mess’ last year when I had no idea what I was doing with my life,” explains Slavin. “I would be going out every night and I was in a constant state of being drunk or hungover. A lot of people would refer to me as a ‘mess’, but I remember being like ‘well actually, I’m having the best time ever and that’s not going to stop’.

“I think that’s what I wanted to celebrate in ‘I Am A Mess’. I wanted to take away the negativity associated with being a mess and turn it into a good thing. That it is completely OK to not have any of your shit together and actually, there are no rules to life and if you want to go out and constantly have fun, then that’s definitely what you should be doing despite what other people think about it.”
