Well, that’s it. Game of Thrones, the show that has caused debate, argument, joy and despair for the last eight years has come to an end, leaving fans clutching at thin air for their annual fantasy fix, and detractors relieved that their Mondays will no longer be taken up by furious arguments as to whether Azor Ahai’s unfulfilled prophecy ruined the series.
The series finale, “The Iron Throne”, has divided opinion, with many fans left unsatisfied as to the rushed, plot hole-ridden nature of the episode, as well as the final season in general. Still, there was, for some, a suitable degree of solemnity, calm and closure in the last episode, with many delighted by the potential for spin-offs in the future, Arya’s foray west of Westeros – “where the maps end” – a particularly enticing prospect. Anyway, Twitter, as always, did not hold back with its opinions, and so, for the last time, we present to you the best of the bunch.
