Founded by French-Japanese designer Sylvie Millstein in 2012, New York-based womenswear label Hellessy continued their focus on low key elegance and day to day sophistication in their AW19 collection. Having previously worked at Givenchy and Chanel, Millstein’s designs embrace the ready-to-wear trend dominating fashion, affording her collections a simultaneous sense of glamour and quotidien finctionality, with looks suitable for offices and parties alike.

Crimson has been dominating NYWF this season, and Hellessy’s collection was no different, the colour juxtaposed against various creams and applied to a selection of both off-shoulder and sparkly low-cut dresses. Lining frills and checked pattern suits added a sense of tradition to the collection, while exaggeratedly brimmed hats, insect patterning and Americana red white n’ blue star ensembles injected a sense of contemporary sparkle.

This eye on subtle elegance has made the label a firm celebrity favourite, with fans including Gwyneth Paltrow, Priyanka Chopra, Tessa Thompson, Rihanna, Gemma Chan, Martha Hunt, Lily James, and Kate Bosworth.
