Coming off the back of successful releases of his singles “freshman year” and “blonde” in 2018, Isaac Dunbar is starting 2019 in style with brand new single, “mime”.
A song all about being at someone’s beck and call in love, Dunbar sings “Mold me, oh so coldly, I just want to make sure you’re okay, that you’re satisfied just for the day.” The song is fascinating sonically, the swirling sounds mirroring the array of emotion laid on by the singer, the outcome a wonderfully disorganised wave of sound.
As Dunbar explains, “‘mime’ is about a girl who finally realizes she is in a toxic relationship after a long time of being submissive. The lyrics in the verses are all sarcastic and dark, somewhat to tease the tormentor. Finally at the bridge of the song, she cuts loose from this ensnaring relationship cycle that kept going on.”
