You know how the old-age saying goes: opposites attract. And when you lay your eyes on the AW19 offering from Paris-born menswear brand, Biuu, that much is clear.
Old-meets-new was the heart of the show, with creative director Wu Hao inspired by polar opposites: “This collection was presented with the concept of space and futurism in mind, but with the added element of ancient Maya civilization. An element of the past joined together with space, an element of the future.” The result? Standout streetwear and slick workwear looks with a vibrant 80s-style colour palette running through.
Loud colour block knits and graphic print boilersuits dominated the runway, with leather harnesses and avant-garde oversized leather massively upping the ante.
For the first time ever, the menswear ensembles were showcased as well as ten womenswear looks (hello, glitter over-the-knee boots).
Hao explained to Wonderland: “My favourite look is the leather jacket from the first look.”
“When I think about my brand and who it’s designed for, it’s nothing to do with age – I just want people to feel like themselves. I can’t wait for spring/summer now. We have collaborations on the agenda and the showroom is opening now in Paris. It’s all very exciting.”
