Fashion. Art. Basketball. Just really sweet sneakers. And why shouldn’t the worlds collide? And now, luxe Italian brand Golden Goose Deluxe Brand has collaborated with art-meets-fashion collective, New York Sunshine, for a series of performances to celebrate the brand’s roots and history.
The performances will be showcased at this year’s Venice Biennale of Architecture, and also coincide with the launch of GGDB’s new kicks, the Stardon – a homage to American basketball and craftsmanship.
A sledge hammer is repeatedly taken to a concrete five-point star in “Golden Ratio”; a mirrored basketball hoop is dragged out of Venice’s waterways in “Regulation Height”. The videos show how craftsmanship involves breaking something down, and redefining it.
“NYS makes art that is part of life, that should be lived, used and abused, not contemplated. We fully embrace their point of view. Fashion, for us, matters as a part of life,” explains GGDB.
Hamptons-based collective, New York Sunshine, is dedicated to bridging the gaps between basketball, surfing and street culture, which has previously culminated in installations for Virgil Abloh.
