LFW: TOPSHOP SS18

In which West End Girls go bling.

West End Girls

For SS18 the Topshop Show Space – host to catwalk shows from Fashion East’s posse amongst others – landed on Charing Cross Road, just a stone’s throw from iconic Soho venues like Madame Jojo’s and Greek Street’s Moonlighting; soundtracked by the likes of Pet Shop Boys and New Order (“West End Girls” and “True Faith” respectively), this all formed the mood for what strode past guests on Sunday afternoon. Here, the Topshop girl on show was something of a party animal, a creative – possibly – thriving on individuality, as the show notes suggested, and “getting away with it”.

Quality Street

Gold satin shoe boots accompanying look one (worn by Adwoa Aboah, doing overtime this season, surely?) and red metallic trousers for look two – followed by an accompanying scarlet jacket for look four then a skirt (eight) and dress (nine); to say Topshop’s team found inspo in the chocolate tin wouldn’t exactly be an understatement. Further satin, pearls, feathers and an inside out wrapper (read: silver) leather coat all completed the party ready look, while snakeskin prints crept in as a cool addition. And did we mention the glittery eye makeup?!

Bling Bling

While the late 90s-early 00s-slight nod to Prada bags caught our attention big time – carried by near on every model, we’re just trying to work out which colour should top our wish list – the real star of the accessories show this season was the bling on display. Large earrings, heavy necklaces and zip top fastenings, either someone got a really good deal on some wholesale diamante or we all need to do a hardcore search of the jewellery box for that OTT choker we left in there 15 years ago. We’re hoping (and readying ourselves) for the latter.
