For AW17, London-based menswear label Blood Brother looks back at its native city’s history, focusing on the somewhat unusual choice, perhaps, of the river Thames and its surrounding architecture. From mud larkers to ferrymen, designers James Waller and Nick Biela take inspo from the subcultures of people who previously made their living from the river’s waters.

In true Blood Brother fashion, a plethora of colours, textures and carefully chosen prints dominates the collection: brought to life through printed imagery of the river’s cartography, embroidery, silks and sweats, Blood Brother pays tribute to London’s lifeblood and its notorious banks. Functionality remains a central focus for the label: jumbo cord trousers, straps and hidden pockets compose the typical worker’s outfit. Blood Brother’s staples – such as oversized coats and bombers – give the collection its distinct appearance. And there’s more! The much-loved cross-body bags are back in a five-piece capsule collection, re-launching the brand’s accessories line in the process.

Shot by Daniel Bruno Grandl and covered with references such as “Lost teddy bear washed up in Bow Creek” or “London Bridge 1970s bridge spanning”, the accompanying look book is an ode to the rich DNA of London’s urban riverside.
