LFWM: Bobby Abley SS18

The designer’s latest collection champions 20 years of the Teletubbies.

Messy Fun

Stating that the collection sought to “explore the exuberance of youth,” Abley’s focus point for SS18 was a celebration of iconic kids TV show, the Teletubbies. Continuing to build on his character-inspired pieces, his image laden sweaters had added zips and ropes to give a new dimension to the theme that his name has become synonymous with. A collaboration with I Love Choc’s Alex Chao saw colourful overalls featuring I LOVE CHOC branding. A thinly-veiled political commentary, some pieces also featured imagery of the EU passport and slogan tees brandishing the word FOREIGN. As superfans of 90s Xtina, we were fully obsessed with the XTINA FOREVER tees – definitely on our want-list.

The Hair

First things first, let’s talk about the hair. Models such as Kit Butler and Jhona Burjack donned separate spiked hair held together with multicoloured elastic bands, elsewhere, models wore wigs made to replicate the iconic headpieces of the tellytubbies. Facial sequins and glitter lipstick marks also added to the overall aesthetic of the show.

Dipsy Does It

To round off the SS18 show, Teletubbies’ Dipsy did the rounds, dancing down the catwalk and high-fiving members of the front row’s fashion elite, adding an extra burst of fun to an already exciting, fun and diverse collection.
