LFWM: Vivienne Westwood SS18

Westwood treats us to a day at the circus.

Dance Dance Dance

In one of the busiest runways of the season, for her SS18 collection Westwood had dancers of all genres performing on the catwalk. Fashion spectators offered applause to voguers, ballet dancers, acrobats and contemporary dance artists as they sauntered down the runway wearing SS18 whilst models worked their way around the performance piece. The presentation was live soundtracked by Levent Taylor & Mic Righteous, offering up an excellent musical display for the likes of Detox, Ezra Miller and Dermot O’Leary who all sat front row LFWM’s most anticipated showcase.

The Queen of the Environment

Continuing to push her environmentally friendly agenda, Westwood made a point of attaching bottles and other recyclable waste to some models’ legs and waist – a potential reminder that people should be playing their part in bettering our sustainability levels. The collection overall made reference to unique playing cards devised by Westwood (one of which will be released each week in a full-scale campaign environmental campaign) and exploring the following themes: Love, Free World and IOU, Greed Rot$ Propaganda, War and Giants like Shell And Monsanto who rape the Earth. Each models make-up was specially devised to link with these topics. Similarly, the typically Westwood collection featured a less-is-more approach, a comment on cutting back, using less, but making most of what we’ve got.

A Fabulous Finale

True to the iconicity of Dame Vivienne Westwood and ever responsible for a full-scale spectacle, the designer entered the runway atop the shoulders one of the acrobats, leading her troupe down the runway to masses of applause. Although it looked like she might topple off any second, she managed to stay put, waving at her fashion fans and family and rounding off another successful season for one of the U.K’s most loved designers.
