Premiere: Inner Voice – "Underworld"

The artist who found his voice again.

The meaningfully named, Inner Tongue had devastatingly nearly lost his voice. A severe vocal disorder meant the singer had to work relentlessly to raise funds for a voice-saving operation that only a handful of specialists in the world could handle. After the operation, Inner Tongue had to go against his natural instinct and embark on a period of complete silence. As he explains: “I hid myself in total silence in my apartment. Somehow I was drawn from my sofa to my piano, and tried to overcome my fear. I decided to modify my musical focus temporarily by writing songs which could produce a melodic tension without vocals. What emerged came from an entirely new perspective.”

Now working from his current home base in Vienna, Inner Tongue presents his first single, “Underworld” from the forthcoming debut album. A track filled with subdued drums, swirly synths and the delicate voice we would have all had missed, “Underworld” is the first song that Inner Voice wrote during daylight hours – usually preferring to write music in the dead of the night. The newly released video reflects the natural relationship dance has with music and beautifully suits the no-fuss manner of Inner Tongue himself.
