MFW: Jil Sander AW17

Jil Sander’s Icelandic AW17 collection is ice cold.

Icelandic Influence

Pulling influence from the epic 1930s novel ‘Independent People’ by Nobel-prize winning author Halldor Laxness which is set in rural Iceland, Jil Sander’s AW17 offering at Milan Fashion Week ensured that everything from the colour palette to the textures were based upon the book’s Icelandic setting. Expect hues of grey and yellow to reflect the landscape and chunky, heavy-weight pieces to protect you from the bone-chilling icy climate. There’s roll-necks and parka’s aplenty in this literature inspired collection – and we can’t get enough.

Front Line Fashion

Ensuring you’re equipped to battle Iceland’s arctic conditions, the collection has a military undertone which is achieved through epaulettes, statement buckles, chunky shoes and military style vests. This undercurrent is further enhanced by the array of greens and browns that feature throughout the collection – think colours of camouflage applied singularly to certain pieces.

All About Accessories

One of the standouts for this Jil Sander’s AW17 collection were the delightful array of accessories. Ranging from re-imagined satchels to clip-on belt bags, the diversity of colours and styles ensures that while they’re super cute, they’re also super convenient.
