Art Attack

Fashion alone is not enough for Antonio Marras. Art has become yet another way to express himself, and his vast collection of paintings, scribbles, illustrations and ready-mades filled the space at La Triennale di Milano. With the walls splattered with pieces from his exhibition “Antonio Marras: Nulla Dies Sine Linea” (“Not One Day Without A Line”, highlighting his need to be creative), those attending were meandered through the dream-like maze of paintings before the men’s Autumn and women’s pre-Fall collections sprang to life against the stunning backdrop.

Battling Banality

As Marras once said: “We need excess, eccentricity against the cliché, banality, uniformity”, and he certainly displayed this on the runway. Showing his signature over-the-top style, classically elegant looks were accentuated with clashing patterns, lavish embroidery and eye-capturing intarsias. It was a kaleidoscope of creativity with each exciting and breath-taking look charming the audience over and over again.

Creative Chaos

The night could be considered as more like a theatrical performance than a fashion show, with models joined by dancers, mimes, actors and other performers. Inspired by the idea of haunted Scottish castles and dream-like presences constantly surrounding you, the night was filled with quirky goings on. To set the scene, towering dancers in Scottish kilts welcomed guests at the entrance, while tableaux vivants occupied the dark corners of the exhibition, joined by a reenactment of a risqué ménage-à-trois and a bearded woman. It was immersive and inventive, and one of the most exciting fashion shows to date.
