LFW: Faustine Steinmetz SS17

You’ll never feel blue again thanks to Faustine Steinmetz SS17.

Denim Remastered

For this season, Faustine Steinmetz does denim – but like you’ve never seen it before, even by her own standards. The designer takes inspiration from everyone’s favourite material, and creates pieces that hint at denim jackets and jeans, but with abstract twists like hand-weaving and hand-dying. Keeping with the theme, some looks had single denim pockets standing alone as a fresh new accessory, or even used a stylish belt. Asymmetrical maxi skirts were refreshed with light airy materials, and crop tops and jackets were made with button details in honour of everyone’s favourite trouser.

Cue The Blue

Blue is about to become your favourite colour thanks to Faustine’s beautiful and creative use of the familiar hue. Thomas Petherick designed a mesmerising set that saw the models sitting as literal artwork, leisurely laying in blue tinted cubicles. The presentation felt like visiting a space age fashion museum that showcases gorgeous models in only the coolest threads. To amp up the blueness, the models faces and bodies were painted or splattered with the colour, turning them into hypnotising, cerulean creatures of the sea. Contrasting fresh whites were beautifully weaved or hand-dyed onto the pieces, blending together with the blue in perfect harmony.

Say My Name

Faustine took a cue from many other designers and included logo-monnogrammed pieces in her collection. Her name was stamped onto coats and trousers in bright white, providing a striking look that fit perfectly with the denim vibe. The shapes of her pieces were super modern with structured jackets and trousers, as well as assymetrically cut skirts. Her collection brought us all the way back to the 2000s with crop tops, baggy trousers, tinted sunglasses and of course, endless amounts of denim.
