NYFW: Cushnie et Ochs SS17

Cushnie et Ochs stick with there perfect cutout, slit and fit for SS17.

Sex Sells

You don’t have to file through a bunch of Cushnie et Ochs collections to know that their customers –and perhaps even the brand’s designers, Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie– believe in having lives after 5 pm. They excel at designing sexy clothes, and that has aided them in maintaining a stock list that includes Bergdorf Goodman –Linda Fargo, the iconic department store’s SVP Fashion and Store Presentation Director was perched in the front row– Shopbop.com, Neiman Marcus and Net-A-Porter.

Stick With What You Know

So, what cutout, slit or fit for Spring 2017 made this sexy Cushnie et Ochs collection different from Fall 2016 and other past offerings. The honest answer to that is nothing; the clothes are still just as sexy as before, but when you’ve found your groove, especially in an industry where hundreds of designers are showing in New York alone, why would you ruin a good thing, right? With this in mind, what stood out within this lineup was the power pants and skirt suiting, the circular detailing that accented the pockets on strapless jumpsuits and the art deco beading work on cocktail dresses and full-length gowns. The use of color is also worth applauding. Tucked within dark colors like navy and black, and white was feminine flamingo hues and metallics. It’s clear these Parson graduates know how to dress a woman for a night out.

Change For The Future?

What’s worth discussing now is will we ever want a new cutout, slit or fit from Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie in the future? Sticking to their Versace meets Jil Sander aesthetic is what got the ladies a growing cult following, CEO and CFO Yuang Zhang as an investor, and celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Jennifer Hudson wearing their clothes but, a Cushnie et Ochs collection can be predictable. For now though, Cushnie et Ochs have their perfect cutout, slit and fit and it’s safe to assume the designers won’t need to change it anytime soon.
