Premiere: Blooms – "Distance"

Be calmed by Blooms’ soothing but emotional track “Distance.”

Blooms’ breathy vocals are instantly recognisable, as is the veil of secrecy that shrouds her sound. Louise Cullinane (Blooms’ real name) is a master of the kind of dark, delicate and introverted sound that pulls you in with expansive production and crystalline qualities. Her EP “If” chronicles the details of a relationship from beginning to end – the excitement, the vulnerability, and the feeling of getting lost; you can always count on Blooms to catch you in the feels. Her perfectly-clear sound is the definition of minimalist elegance, riding the same wave as Bat For Lashes and Banks. It’s semi-RnB and part electro-pop ballad, but always slow-burning and powerful.

“Distance”, Blooms’ newest track, explores those relationships we know aren’t good for us, where we have to pull ourselves out them despite our hearts wanting to stay close. “I’ve gotta keep my distance. I cannot fall for your charm…Stay in your corner, and I’ll stay in mine” sing her delicate vocals, layered gracefully over ambient electronic sounds. Produced by P*Nut, the hazy melody is akin to listening to something underwater, submerging you in Blooms’ intense yet muted existence. Drown out the world with “Distance”.
