Premiere: Bells and Robes – “How Could We Have Known"

Bells and Robes take us into an electro dream world with their new EP “How Could We Have Known”.

For a duo formed on the Winter Solstice in 2012, it’s not surprising that Bells and Robes (who consist of Luke Sipka on live keyboard and Dean Spaniol on drums and trigger samples for Atlanta, USA) have an otherworldly vibe. Almost transcending time and space, Bells and Robs fuse electronic, synth-heavy sounds with live improvisation to create ambient chillwave that takes you away into a fantasy world. Their dynamic energy, which they class as a “Zen Fresh/Future Bass” sound is completely addictive; their dance DJ elements are mixed together with live improvisations, just like a band jam session, to create a sound that would be as at home on Venus as it is on Earth.

Their brand new EP, “How Could We Have Known” demonstrates all their self-production and technical skills, on top of “exploring the vast ocean of sound and its connection to all human senses.” Covering a range of emotions, Bells and Robes looked at the sensation of feeling everything all at once – joy, sorrow, disappointment, and elation – and expresses that rare feeling of being truly alive. Forming a collection of short stories, Bells and Robes have collaborated with Flat Land, Swain, Miranda Realino and Monica Legitski to create these masterful sonic stories. Punchy hip hop elements blend seamlessly with their self-produced electro soundscapes, taking us away into a dreamworld.
