In April we reported that Anthony Vaccarello had left Versus Versace. Within days, he was announced as the new Creative Director of Saint Laurent and had wiped the fashion house’s lust-inducing Instagram account completely clean. Brutal? Maybe, but we love some drama.
Ever since, we’ve been speculating daily about what the house’s next move will be. Maybe he’d switch up the name again as his predecessor Hedi Slimane did? Would the glam-grunge aesthetic disappear in a puff of cigarette scented-smoke and we’d be left with just a pile of sequins on the floor around a tiara? Looks like that might be the answer.
This morning, Vaccarello’s released his first work through Saint Laurent, a campaign entitled #YSL01. The black and white image series (sticking true to the brand there) documents new faces, both couple and individuals, and was shot by American artist Collier Schorr in Paris. Bare-faced newcomers perpetuate the idea of a fresh start. For now, we’re sat in our tiaras, trying to contain our excitement, waiting to find out whether we need to remove our smokey eye makeup and ripped fishnets. After today’s announcement, we’re guessing we might need you to pass the makeup wipes.
