Mags – Throwback RnB Playlist

London Soul Queen Mags is getting us ready for the weekend with her selection of throwback bangers.

Magortu Margai – AKA Mags – is the 23 year-old singer-songwriter whose obsession with late 90s and early 00s Hip-Hop and RnB led the Sierra Leone-born artist train at to hone her craft at the Italia Conti Academy in London. What happens when you mix an encyclopedic knowledge of all things soulful with the formal training needed to sing like a true diva? In a word (or two): music magic.

We first noticed Mags last year when she dropped some killer tracks in the form of “Roots” and “Etta James” (see what I mean about getting her music history down?) and now she’s upped her game with “Driza Bone“. The release throws her impressive vocal talent over a contemporary, electronic-flavoured beat to addictive effect. It should come as no surprise, then, that when we asked Mags to put us together a little weekend playlist, she packed it full of ultra-likeable classics from the likes of Destiny’s Child, J-Lo, and The Fugees. So, plug in and get your Friday evening off to the start it deserves!

“Mo Money Mo Problems” – The Notorious B.I.G

This song is a banger, I love the video and Diddy’s dancing.

“He Wasn’t Man Enough” – Toni Braxton

Are you maddddd, Dark child, Toni Braxtonnn… Hahha this is a straight classic. Toni has one of the best voices ever, effortless and too cool.

“The Boy Is Mine” – Brandy and Monica

This song is the one for duets. It’s perfect BUT I always find it hard what singer to be, if I’m Brandy i’ll still sing my fave Monica section lol, soz!

“Ignition remix” – R Kelly

What ah tuneeeee!! R Kelly is too much vocally and melodically.

“Say My Name” – Destiny’s Child

Ultimate ‘in my room grab my hair brush and sing into it like I’m on stage pretending to be Beyonce, life’s great!!’ Love love the video and the dance break in the middle 8 is everything.

“Love Don’t Cost A Thing” – Jennifer Lopez

Oi listen this is a tuneeeeeeeeee, I know the routine it’s one of my faves.
