Starting On The Right Foot

Things immediately started off well at the Libertine Fall 2016 show. Though it was quite stunning, it wasn’t the first look; a clouds and mountain print coat with crystal embellished leggings that kicked off the runway show with a bang. Last year, guests who trekked to the Skylight Clarkson in West Soho were greeted with a noticed that explained how USP lost boxes that contained much of the label’s Spring 2016 collection. That series of unfortunate events didn’t continue into this season so instead of a note those in attendance received stickers –now thats how you start a fashion show.

Smiles For Everyone

Collections from founder Johnson Hartig are always fun, playful and heavy handed on the embellishments. Fall 2016 Libertine was no different. However, there was a bit more cohesion found in the midst of the chaos. A repeated dream where Hartig scaled and climbed a mountain served as inspiration for the brand, and the majority of that print graced the outerwear for both men and women. Crystals took the form of cigarette buds on trousers, a black peacoat and an oversized crewneck sweatshirt. One could say that all Libertine collections look the same -it wouldn’t be hard to agree with that– but sometimes the excessive frills look better on some clothes than others. A cape that read “time for love” on the back was one of the better moments while the black gathered skirt in one of the final look could have gotten lost with the garments from last season’s collection. You can’t help but love Libertine, though; the festive clothes and party themed final walk never fail to put smiles on faces and bring the happiness in your heart to live.
