What is it with crazy, all caps band names at the moment? Not that it really matters when the music is this good. HATY HATY is a collaboration between two artists coming out of the Netherlands: Blaudzun and David Douglas. The name Blaudzun might not mean too much to us here (yet), but over in Europe he’s an established indie artist with several chart successes, awards, a golden album and many appearances at festivals like Hurricane/Southside, SXSW, Pinkpop, Lowlands, Bråvalla and various other Euro-fests you may or may not have heard of (depending on how obnoxiously informed you are). Douglas, meanwhile, is an electronic musician and producer whose debut LP, Moon Observations, received a whole lot of press attention back in 2014.
Now, the two friends are working together under the moniker HATY HATY – derived from the Indonesian word ‘hati’, meaning heart – with an album, High As the Sun, set for an early March release. We’ve already seen a stellar single of the same name from the record, and now we’re proud to premiere a new track from the duo, the unusually titled ‘Run – Stop – Non – Stop – Belly – Flop’. It’s a slice of slightly spacey electro-pop which combines Blaudzun’s Radiohead-style vocalwork with Douglas’ digital wizardry; well worth a listen, we must say. Oh, and the album is available to preorder now, so get on it.
