A COLLECTION OF US BY UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON

Back from a whirlwind trip to Treviso, we were presented with United Colors of Benetton’s new collection and female centred initiative.

Benetton have teamed up knitwear and social commitment this season, what a killer combination. Earlier this week we travelled to Treviso to learn about the socially conscious brand’s latest initiatives.

‘A Collection Of Us’, Benetton’s latest collection is a staggered release of four capsules, the first Archive themed line is out now and the others follow in December with a Nutcracker theme (Christmas please), February’s carnival theme (Valentine’s please) and a sporty capsule for April (er Easter, please?). Labelled as heritage, technique, colour and performance each of these capsule treats focuses on one of Benetton’s signature elements, drawing on the archives and twisting things up, reinventing them.

Benetton’s campaign surrounding the collection is out now and features a microcosmic five women of different generations and different backgrounds speaking to the female population (girl power!) with messages of empowerment. Each model even embodies a decade of female activism: radical experimentation from the 60s, social change in the 70s, making waves into the male-dominated industries in the 80s, celebration of success in the 90s and further campaign for broader social change in the 2000s.

Combined with the launch of this collection is the Benetton Women Empowerment Program, their latest sustainable strategy effort, supporting projects that are helping women achieve a sustainable livelihood, non discrimination and equal opportunities, access to quality education and healthcare and an end of all forms of violence against women.
