After three and a half years as creative director at Dior, Raf Simons has announced his departure.
In a statement released today by Dior, Raf Simons has left his post as creative director of the brand. The fashion world is already speculating his reason for leaving as well as possible successors but so far little more explanation has been offered other than that Simons is leaving for “personal reasons”.
Sidney Toledano, Dior’s CEO, delivered a statement explaining Simons would not renew his contract with the fashion house and followed by thanking him for his work since 2012 which he described as an “exceptional contribution”.
We’re all left wondering now what this will mean for Dior, who will take over and what direction the brand will move in, but perhaps more interestingly, what will this mean for Raf Simons? With a free schedule to devote to his own line as well as three years of experience at a leading global fashion house (and let’s not forget his time at Jil Sander), Raf Simons the brand is on course to make huge waves in what we hope is the near future.
Until then: thank you, Raf and good luck.
