Philipp Plein displays his vision of a hip-rock world in a robotic spectacle of leather, metal knit and studs galore.
Robotics
Plein has become someone to watch in terms of extravagant display and this season was no exception with Courtney Love opening the the show with a literally bionic band. Plein’s catwalk was punk meets i-robot with a runway turned conveyor belt churning out the assembly line of models, ready to be customised with accessory delivering drones.

The theme of the collection was hip-rock, “a modern day fusion of hip hop, heavy-metal, rock and rap.” Shoes were flat, biker jackets oversized and both were studded. These bold looks were paired with tutu-inspired skirts of feathers and black tulle. Leather was the material of choice and was cut into gladiator-inspired ribbons and straps which formed tops and skirts, fringed accessories and embellished dresses and sandals.

Adding a touch of glamour to the punk-vibe was all things shiny – silver fabrics, metal knit chain-mail silhouettes and lots of embellishments. Studs adorned leather in all places – down dresses, lapels and leggings. Plein’s debut eyewear line of spacey grey mirrored aviators also featured and were handed to the models by the robotic arms as they were taken down the runway.
