Drink Bourbon with the ghosts of rock-n-roll or kick back this winter in a summer spa escape at the K West Hotel & Spa.
Over the years the K West hotel has become known as a cult hangout spot for musicians. Formerly as the BBC recording studios, it witnessed the likes of Bob Marley, Bowie and the Kinks amongst other musical legends pass through its doors. Now it remains a favourite in the music industry, being a stone’s throw away from the O2 Empire and the legendary Hammersmith Apollo. Late last year the hotel underwent a complete renovation which has resulted in modern but laid-back urban decor and an award-winning spa making it the perfect place to relax away from city noise.
The Studio Bar calls to New York and is a trendy hangout spot for both residents of the hotel and locals, the highlight being the drinks menu which includes an impressive range of Bourbon cocktails. The hotel’s restaurant, Studio Kitchen, has more sophisticated decor and serves a comforting American style menu which includes some cracking burgers (try the buttermilk chicken) – but also a delicious superfood salad amongst other things for the more health conscious. If it’s a special occasion or you’re just in need of a treat their ‘Glam Rock Afternoon Tea’ is worth a try, starting at £22.50 per person.
A spacious bedroom can be hard to come by in London hotels so if that’s a must for you then put this hotel on your list – of the 220 guest rooms the smallest is only just under 300 sq ft. Even the junior double rooms are plush but if you want the K West experience then book a K suite which has an abundance of space and features which include a luxurious living space and a really great tub.
The highlight of this hotel is the holistic spa – another feature of London hotels that is often disappointing when space is so hard to come by. The K Spa features a hydrotherapy pool, sanarium, sauna, dry flotation tank, herbal steam room and a fully equipped gym. The really unique feature which sees this spa gaining recognition in the hotel world is that you can literally experience winter and summer within their four walls. The ‘Snow Paradise’ room brings Finland to London in a room that mimics a wintery artic experience, both scenically and temperature-wise. However as someone who much prefers the warmer months their ‘Sun Meadow’ room is my favourite feature – the ceiling dispenses beams of de-stressing harmless light and intend to provide a haven for sufferers of S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder), as well as those with eczema, psoriasis or arthritis. The Sun Meadow room comes at £15 for 15 minutes.
