HOUSSE DE RACKET’S GUIDE TO PARIS

Paris-based duo Housse de Racket take us on a tour of their city and share their favourite tracks.

Housse de Racket are a French electro-pop band previously on the record and fashion imprint Kitsune. Now they’re on K7 and have a new album called The Tourist out on October 30 – the title of which riffs on the overabundance of selfie-stick culture they see surrounding the monuments and landmarks of Paris.

Their sound is charming, infectious and unashamedly synth-laced and we couldn’t be more excited about their upcoming release. As Victor le Masne and Pierre Leroux are Paris locals, who better to take Wonderland through the best spots in the city – and the best songs to hear when you visit them.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

“We both live in Montmartre, Paris. We spend a lot of time there. We actually recorded The Tourist in Pierre’s flat who’s literally facing the Sacré-Coeur. People come from all over the world to see our everyday-home and it’s sometimes strange to have all those selfie-stick people, wearing short pants and sunglasses on the top of their heads, as your neighbors. But besides being a very touristic place, the 18th district of Paris is also a warm and popular neighborhood from Place de Clichy to Barbes through Pigalle.”

FOR A COFFEE, BEER OR PARTY

“Le Soleil de la Butte is where Victor parks his Vespa that we ride everyday. So it’s a perfect spot to have a croissant and a café in the morning, elaborating the “master plan” or simply to have a beer after a day at the studio. At night, the basement turns into a night club. Always fun.” (32 rue Muller, Paris 18)

FOR MUSIC

“Le Rideau de Fer is a very good little record shop just around the corner. It’s not expensive at all and we’ve bought many records there that inspired us during the making of the album: Fleetwood Mac’s Future Games, Kid Creole’s Tropical Gangsters, Crocodiles by Echo And The Bunnymen and many more…” (12 rue André del Sarte, Paris 18)

“Master Wave is a vintage synth shop in Pigalle. We have know the owner since we acquired our first Korg MS 20 there, back in 2002. Since then, we’ve bought there many items such as a beautiful Jupiter 4 from the 70’s or the Space Echo we used for basically every track on the album.” (14 rue Victor Masse, Paris 9)

FOR A SANDWICH IN THE SUN

“This place – Le Jardin du Luxembourg – is deep in the south of Paris than Montmarte. With its palm trees, statues, fountains and beautiful people, it looks like Game of Thrones‘ King’s Landing while Pairs 18 is more like Winterfell. But it’s also the perfect spot to have a break from rehearsal time. We’re lucky enough to have our music studio in the APC building just round the corner of the Luxembourg.” (Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris 6)
