Brighton duo Lizzie Massey and Jim Corbin sandwich four to the floor house beats between R&B vocals and 70s disco decorations on their new single, “Akira”.
We’ve already made acquaintances with Sea Bed’s Lizzie Massey and Jim Corbin after they made us a Wondermix earlier this year. Ever fans of playing with genres, they’re continuing their mixing skills on their new single, “Akira”. Opening with the thumping pulse of classic 4/4 house beats, the gaps all filled with tinkling percussion and echoed effects, Lizzie’s sweeping sighs of vocals switch this track from a dance song into an electronic fused R&B anthem, uplifting in its message to, “do what you love”.
The music video is the epitome of understated cool. Glitches and colour bleeds mix up clips of Lizzie and Jim performing in front of a projection of what the old Ceefax page used to look like crossed with grainy white noise. If we could make music like Sea Bed, we’d probably perform for ourselves too. “Akira” is set for release at the beginning of October as a double A side along with “Caves”.
