Sarah Burton’s military inspiration was obvious as the models marched down the catwalk but rather than being macabre, a poetic darkness was employed.

What?

Suits became uniforms when teamed with soldiers’ coats but messages of ‘Truth’, ‘Valour’ and ‘Honour’ suggested an allegiance to pacifism. Or perhaps propaganda. Dark patterns merged like camouflage and pinstripes brought the Great War influence into the modern day, a collection to make you consider.

Who?

We could see this on anyone, no harsh colours, adaptable floral prints – for McQueen it’s a visually tame line. The wearer is to be aware of the poignancy Burton is trying to convey at a time when the whole world was eagerly waiting to see what she had to say.

Want?

The navy floral crossed military coat to go over the ‘Honour’ knit and a pair of dangerously embellished shoes to walk the night in.
