MFW: MSGM SS15

MSGM’s SS15 collection sees a plethora of print, contrasting fabrications and power-popping bursts of colour storm the catwalk to the sounds of YACHT09

Entitled ‘Cruel Stories of Youth’, MSGM’s SS15 collection takes inspiration from the intricate and beautiful maps of Alghiero Boetti. Resonating his free and inventive use of language, the collection sees a plethora of print and power-popping bursts of colour that borrow pineapples and cacti from nature.

Cacti appear on canvas and batiste, ferns on crisp poplin and wool flannel, spots on cotton canvas and hound’s-tooth translates through linen. Meanwhile multicoloured rugby stripes are seen on sweatshirts, optical flags on nylon and gingham is large on piqué polo shirts, and inserted in knitwear.

This story only has one tune in the background: “I walk alone” by the Californian indie band YACHT.

“I see immense beauty in the work in the Embroidered Map,” says Boetti. I had no part in that work, I made no choices, as the world is as it is and I did not design it, flags are what they are and I did not design them. In short, I did absolutely nothing: when the basic idea, the concept appears, everything else is no longer a choice”.
