Louis Vuitton, branded eternally by their iconic monogram have instigated a project celebrating the Icon and the Iconoclasts
Gracing the luggage of anyone who can afford such luxury is the Louis Vuitton monogram, now up for grabs to be redesigned by a list of six designers who are collaborating with the french fashion house – putting their own spin on a logo that has evolved into a symbol of the classically chic.
Targeted as the best in their field, a healthy mix of couturiers, designers, artists and architects, have come together to pool resources and put their twist on the classic “LV”. After blurring, redesigning and refining their images, the results are an embodiment of perspective on the fashion industry from professionals wealthy with talent and innovation; a definite reflection on themselves and their brands. #CelebratingMonogam.
The fashion figures in the collaboration include Karl Lagerfeld, Rei Kawakubo and Christian Louboutin, needing no introduction, their collective age of experience in the industry amounts to over 140 years with no sign of it faltering. Unsurprisingly, these fashion veterans provided signatures relatively monochromatic, with only a slick of red representing Louboutin’s seductive signature shoe.
Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry and Mark Newson on the other hand provide us with playful colour-popping results and artist, Cindy Sherman’s stark contrast of bold font and candy colours cements her as someone with a keen eye, the flashes of pink and orange clashing with perfection. In addition to this Frank Gehry presents an emblem in hues of blue, a lone architect amongst a sea of style seekers, soft and unapologetic. And finally, Mark Newson offers a flash of green, as though imprinted by a type-writer.
