HEY, BUDDING WRITERS: PRADA WANTS YOU

Prada want to find the next literary star – and it could be you.

Prada Journal Writing Competition
Fancy yourself the next Zadie Smith or Alan Hollinghurst? Enter Prada Journal, the label’s newy-launched literary contest, which is on the lookout for new talent.

Miuccia Prada has always been celebrated as a designer of unusual intellect (she has a PhD in political science, after all), and so her label has never shied away from experimenting and innovating in the quest for something new – consider this competition no different.

Working alongside Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore, one of Italy’s leading publishers, Prada is looking for new writers to take inspiration from their new collection of optical frames and pen a short story (or stories) focusing on “the inquire of the reality and its perception”.

“What are the realities that our eyes give back to us? And how are these realities filtered through lenses?” the competition asks.

“By using the metaphor of prescription glasses, Prada enters a world made of written words, rather than spoken, thus launching a challenge to explore and enhance the individual interpretation of reality. Optical frames become an opportunity and a tool to investigate diverse creative worlds: a preferred channel and a window on our world, and – why not – on new potential worlds.”

As for the prize, the winning short story will receive €5,000 and will see their work published as a digital book that will be distributed through the Prada website.

If you think you’re up to it, get scribbling (or typing). The competition ends 18th June and entries should be between ten pages minimum (that’s 4000 words) and a maximum of 20 pages (8000 words). Check out all the terms and conditions and submit your entry at the Prada Journal website.

Good luck!
