We all know your 20’s are for figuring things out: shitty jobs, shitty bosses, shitty lovers – you name it, we’ve been there. But luckily for 25-year-old actor Celeste O’Connor, this tumultuous rollercoaster came to a halt much earlier than expected thanks to their new, career-defining role in Marvel’s Madame Web. “I remember, I had an office job at the time. It was my first day and I was in my business casual outfit. I sat down and opened Excel and immediately got a call from my team. I went into the hallway to take the call and they told me I’d booked Madame Web. I immediately started crying. Everyone was like, ‘Omg, what’s wrong?’ So I told everyone I was an actor and that I’d booked a Marvel film. They congratulated me and then fired me! Best reason to be fired ever.”

Gladly waving goodbye to their office job, “storyteller” Celeste (“I’ve wanted to be a performer for as long as I can remember”) joined the likes of Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson and Emma Roberts for a stunt-fuelled stint on the set of Marvel’s psychic smash flick as Mattie Franklin/Spider-Girl. “This project was much more stunt-heavy than anything I’d ever done before,” they share. “I was doing harness work, hanging up in the air, fighting, and training throughout the project. The stunt team on Madame Web was one of my favourite parts of working on the film, they were such a source of light, positivity and energy throughout filming. My stunt double Bethany would greet me with the biggest smile and biggest hug every single day, I love her. I love them all dearly.”

More projects in the pipeline for 2024 include Celeste reprising their role of plucky teen, Lucky Domingo, in Sony’s Ghostbusters franchise. Reuniting with the likes of Paul Rudd, Bill Murray and Finn Wolfhard for the thrilling Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Celeste puts on a brave display as they battle ghouls, supernatural forces and the threat of a second ice age. All in a day’s work, right?

To find out the fate of the supernatural savants, a trip to the cinema is in order. Meanwhile, should a cataclysmic disaster ever hit earth, rest assured Celeste has things covered. “I would assemble a Hopkins engineering grad, Megan Thee Stallion for vibes, my girlfriend because I love her and we do everything together, and Issa Rae as our fearless leader. I don’t know if we would succeed in saving the world, but we would be really hot and funny.” We 100% agree.
