Now he\u2019s returned to the scene of the crime with Magic Mike. <em>Wonderland<\/em> sits down with Channing and co-star Matthew McConaughey to discuss their first times.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/2012\/07\/magic-mike-channing-tatum-and-matthew-mcconaughey\/mm-cb-01404r\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9685\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2012\/07\/AA6-e1342113728927.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Magic Mike\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9685\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/s8zSnguC3bs\">crowds<\/a> attending <em>Magic Mike<\/em> screenings have been getting almost as much press as the film has. Have either of you snuck into a cinema to experience the film with a real audience?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Channing: I had someone send me pictures of a guy standing up in his boxers in the movie theatre getting tips and the girls are going bananas! It was genius. He\u2019s the smartest guy out there. \u201cGo where the money is, buddy!\u201d Not even where the girls are, go where the money is. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Dallas [Matthew&#8217;s character] has one of the most memorable strip sequences in the film. How did you prepare for that scene?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Matthew: Man, it was so nerve-wracking, I\u2019d never done anything like it before. It was like de-virginising, man! Even though you know what you\u2019re supposed to do and you\u2019ve prepared for it, you\u2019re a little bit numb; you don\u2019t really hear. You think you\u2019re going to be able to follow the music but all I could hear was \u2018boom, boom\u2019. In my head I was thinking \u2018if you miss something, don\u2019t retreat!\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>C: I made sure I was always there on at least everybody\u2019s first time just to make sure they weren\u2019t freaking out because it\u2019s a really weird thing, putting yourself out there like that. All you can do is just jump, that\u2019s just it. You can prepare for it as much as you want but your first time, you probably won\u2019t remember much of it.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/2012\/07\/magic-mike-channing-tatum-and-matthew-mcconaughey\/mm-cb-04539r\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9681\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2012\/07\/AA1-e1342113454488.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Magic Mike\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9681\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Channing, do you remember your first time on stage as a stripper?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>C: I remember very, very vividly. It was nightmarish.<\/p>\n<p>M: How did you do?<\/p>\n<p>C: To be honest, I don\u2019t really remember. I did a boy scout routine and that was horrifying thing number one. Number two was my sister sitting in the front row.<\/p>\n<p>M: Your sister? That\u2019s a hell of an initiation! Did you invite her?<\/p>\n<p>C: No, I didn\u2019t invite her! \u201cHey Paige, what\u2019s up? Wanna come see me get naked?\u201d No!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Was she amused?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C: She literally couldn\u2019t meet my eye. All her friends were laughing and pointing, all these girls I\u2019d grown up with my entire life. It\u2019s like that horrific nightmare you have, that all of a sudden you\u2019re in class at school and the next thing you know you\u2019re butt naked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certain aspects of Dallas\u2019 character could be seen as a send-up of your public persona, Matthew. Were these elements already in the script or did you add them? Like the conga drums\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>M: I\u2019ve heard that and I\u2019ve read a few things where people have said \u2018Oh, did you see there was a parody of 1999 when you got arrested playing the congas wearing what God gave you\u2019, but I actually didn\u2019t even think about it because I still play.  That was my most popular concert, even though it was the one where I was by myself!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/2012\/07\/magic-mike-channing-tatum-and-matthew-mcconaughey\/aa4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9684\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2012\/07\/AA4-e1342113508144.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Magic Mike\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9684\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steven Soderbergh has talked about retiring from film and has cited <em>Magic Mike<\/em> as one of his last projects.  Have you tried to talk him out of it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C: Personally, I think he should take a break. He\u2019s been churning out films at a pace that\u2019s unprecedented for any director. I think he should take a break, clear his mind, cleanse the palate and just do something completely different that will give him a new perspective on it when he comes back. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Like a <em>Magic Mike<\/em> sequel, perhaps?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C: I would love to. Would you come back Matthew?<\/p>\n<p>M: I\u2019d come back for the right sequel, yeah. <\/p>\n<p>C: For the second one, we think we might want to go even more fun &#8211; flip it on its head and just make a broad comedy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It definitely has an edge we weren\u2019t expecting from the trailers&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C: We really wanted to make <em>Saturday Night Fever<\/em>. That was the plan. Make a powerful, modern version of it. Soderbergh said, \u201cEveryone wants to make seventies films that didn\u2019t make any money\u201d.
