{"id":64357,"date":"2016-02-09T11:33:48","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T11:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wonderlandmagazine.com\/?p=64357"},"modified":"2016-02-10T12:06:40","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T12:06:40","slug":"hotel-41","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wonderlandmagazine.com\/2016\/02\/09\/hotel-41\/","title":{"rendered":"Hotel 41"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Buckingham Palace next door, we went for an impossibly elegant stay at Hotel 41<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Screenshot-488.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-64358\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Screenshot-488-1024x407.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot (488)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A peaceful hideaway in the midst of London\u2019s busiest district seems hard to find, but it could be the reason <a href=\"http:\/\/www.41hotel.com\/\">Hotel 41<\/a> was voted Number 1 on Tripadvisor last year. Fancy a personal butler, 24-hour room service and, well, anything you can dream of? Look no further.<\/p>\n<p>All this luxury begins the moment you step in the Edwardian building, where you\u2019re greeted with a glass of champagne (always a good sign) and two extremely attentive staff \u2013 the hotel promises a two-to-one ratio of staff to guests at all times, which is really absurdly decadent when you give it a moment\u2019s thought. In the suites themselves, luxurious and oh-so-British styling is the order of the day, with marble bathrooms complimenting the deep mahogany furnishings and chic black and white interiors. It\u2019s all a little bit old-English manor but with a contemporary edge that stop things becoming too pastiche. The prerequisite round-the-clock room service, iPod Dock, and Smart TVs are, of course, all present and correct.<\/p>\n<p>A five star hotel must have a five star restaurant, right? Of course, but in all honesty, the unexpected part was the snug champagne bar which accompanies it: a glorious escape from the bustling city outside. The mood is calm, the lights are warm and low \u2013 an intimate setting in which the efficient staff seem delighted to help you with the (almost) overwhelming choice of drinks. After one, two or three drinks I made my way to the restaurant adjacent to the hotel where they serve up international cuisine with a strong South African accent. Firstly, the drinks menu is second to none \u2013 over 110 types of wines and experienced mixologists preparing one of the 60 cocktails on offer.\u00a0The food itself comes straight from the pages of Hotel 41 president and founder Bea Tollman\u2019s cookbook <em>A Life in Food<\/em>. This said, we were expecting\u00a0a treat, and weren&#8217;t disappointed\u00a0when a succulent Springbok Fillet (just don\u2019t say it tastes like chicken) was served up with a good firm bottle of Missonvale Chardonnay.<\/p>\n<p>The epitome of luxury hospitality, this\u00a0peaceful escape is only a stone\u2019s throw from some of the capital\u2019s most sought after tourist destinations. Although I felt no need to leave the considerable\u00a0comfort of my suite (they even have a pillow menu should you get peckish for a midnight snack).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Screenshot-484.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-64359\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Screenshot-484-1024x599.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot (484)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Screenshot-485.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-64360\"
