Marrying fine leather, fur and lace with intricately hand-painted scenes from 50s horror films, Wade uproots classic ideas of glamour while playing into stereotypes of hysterical movie heroines. \u201cI love old movie posters, they feel like a bit of a lost art,\u201d she observes. \u201cMy grandma\u2019s got a really fab collection of them, which I basically wanted to steal and wear somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>For her Saint Martins graduate collection, Creature From the Black Lagoon, emblazoned dresses matched outlandishly luxurious candyfloss pink fox and mink stole. Lace slips peeking out from weeny leather dresses with ragged hems, you can practically hear the melodrama from just looking at them. \u201cI\u2019m not someone who thinks much about silhouette or pattern-cutting,\u201d she explains. \u201cI\u2019m much more interested in print.\u201d And print is exactly what\u2019s interesting about Wade. Growing up\u00a0in Gloucestershire (where \u201ceveryone wore\u00a0leggings and pony club jumpers\u201d), she took inspiration from the bold-printed 80s fashion her mum wore \u2013 think pilfered Vivienne Westwood and Christian Lacroix.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>As far as her personal styles goes, she admits she \u201cstill wears a lot of the clothes I had\u00a0when I was 11\u2013 Miss Sixty, Fiorucci T-shirts. I haven\u2019t changed much.\u201d It was only after leaving school and completing a fine art and fashion foundation course that Wade realised her love for fashion design. \u201cI loved drawing and painting and always wanted to go to art school,\u201d she tells me. \u201cBut on foundation, I really felt like there was a lot more of a drawing aspect to fashion. We had life-drawing classes every couple of weeks and there was more of an emphasis on sketchbooks.\u201d Fast-forward\u00a0a couple of years and Wade\u2019s on the cusp of becoming one of London\u2019s brightest young things. She describes her muse as \u201cfunny, resilient, brave and quite feminine.\u201d Oh, and \u201cnot too serious,\u201d she laughs.
