So much so that after we chatted for our 10th Birthday Issue, we enlisted her for another feature in the form of a playlist. Electronic beats soaked in melody, this one is Kid\u00e4&#8217;s own style entirely.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/kida-kida\/sets\/wonderland<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This mix is a combination of future soul, electro-jazz, &amp; world music. All of these songs are very textural in their percussion &amp; soundscapes, which makes them really dynamic and engaging to listen to. This is something that interests me and inspires my own music. All of these artists are exceptionally refined in their craft and are able to evoke imagery through sound. Artists like Persian Empire, Flako, Flylo, Romare, they all arouse this idea that production is a lot like making a collage, only instead of images you are using noises (be it claps, snaps, crackles, pops, samples of Jamaican dudes talking, etc).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When I was 15 I was the singer of a motown band, so soul music was how I\u00a0learned to sing in many respects. World music was always something that was just playing around the house. And jazz is just\u2026 fucking right. And now there is this niche internet scene where people are taking these classic sounds of soul, jazz, and world music and re-interpretating them with a modern electronic twist, creating entirely new genres.
