Miuccia Prada brings an eclectic edge to retro classics in Prada’s SS16 collection.

Golden Girls

For the show Prada’s headquarters were transformed into a room glowing golden which was mirrored by Pat McGrath’s make up look of a bold metallic lip. But the golden glamour was paired with a look of androgyny rather than the heightened femininity of Prada’s previous collection. Aside from the daring lip makeup was all-natural and hair was pushed back apart from baby hairs slicked onto models foreheads.

“Conservative Eccentricity”

The theme for the collection was conservative eccentricity – that which was traditional or paired down was turned up by a range of bold fabrics and quirky accessories. Translucent slip dresses were layered under and over jackets and graphic knits. Retro boxy cuts and a muted colour palette was accompanied by vertical striped prints, caged bib-esque neck pieces and bauble inspired spherical earrings in a selection of materials and colours.

Revamped Classics

Skirt suits were a firm favourite in the collection with the jackets box-shaped and finishing firmly at the waist – they came in a multitude of textures including organza, checks, tweed and snakeskin. The inside bag and the paillette covered coats return redone in new seasonal hues.
