The\u00a0Jersey\u00a0born, NY based rapper has been creeping onto the scene since high school but really made you look with his video for <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/63066689\">\u2018Goodie Goodies\u2019 (2013) <\/a>and\u00a0mix tape\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stereogum.com\/1689021\/mixtape-of-the-week-cakes-da-killa-hunger-pangs\/franchises\/mixtape-of-the-week\/\">\u2018Hunger\u00a0Pangs\u2019\u00a0(2014)<\/a>. A front-runner in the LGBT hip hop genre, he\u00a0probably\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/92246235\">runs your club<\/a>.\u00a0Today he\u2019s releasing his new music video for \u2018Mixed Messages,\u2019 directed by\u00a0Mark Lovato and\u202fGella Zefira-right here on Wonderland!<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Cakes explains\u00a0\u201cthe video\u00a0was inspired by classic\u202fpsychological horror genres, in particular\u202fVertigo and The Shining. It&#8217;s about experiencing that emotional limbo when you\u2019re on the receiving end of unclear messages\u00a0or mind games.\u202fHere Cakes is caught in a moment in time on replay, that space between\u202fexcitement and frustration. \u202fIt&#8217;s a\u202frelatable, but perhaps too frequent phenomenon that we&#8217;ve all experienced at one time or another from people that catch our interest.\u202f In the end they become your ghost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HKOD5miME4g\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the story\u00a0behind the song? It was one of those situations where I was dealing with a very flirtatious persona and when we meet there was a very weird disconnect and I felt so stupid. We cool now though.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Do you play into dating games?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Not at all. Games are no fun! I&#8217;m the type to pull a man into a bathroom stall or make out with a bartender real quick. I&#8217;ve always felt like if someone is coming at me on level 6 he&#8217;s going to get a 10 in return in regards to the steaminess of the situation. I&#8217;m learning how to take my time now, but before I wasn&#8217;t taking anyone seriously. The mind games and emotional scarring is still a\u00a0major\u00a0turn\u00a0off.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Do you have any\u00a0rules\u00a0for communicating with dates?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I&#8217;m a very direct and honest person. That draws people in but after a while I feel like it can be overwhelming for the weak. I try to make my\u00a0boo\u00a0of the moment feel like he can be just as open with me about things but men are always trying to pull the wool over my eyes. I guess I&#8217;m too good at playing the whole damsel in distress role and they forget that I&#8217;m still a man who can smell game from a mile away.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s the best way to turn someone down via text?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI had Mexican for lunch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Best emoji for picking them up?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I&#8217;m all about the tongue emoji.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>You&#8217;re on the road a lot-how do you keep up with relationships?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I&#8217;m still trying to get that balance down pack. I think as long as everyone is on the same page with the landscape of your budding love affair the distance shouldn&#8217;t be a problem. For friends, they know I have to pay my bills so they don&#8217;t care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>This NYC\u00a0winter\u00a0was\u00a0horrid.
