Leaving behind a career in architecture, Courr\u00e8ges did a ten-year stint at Balenciaga before starting his eponymous line in 1961. And whether or not you believe the rumours that it wasn\u2019t actually Mary Quant but Courr\u00e8ges who invented the mini- skirt, it\u2019s undeniable that he has radicalised womenswear.<\/p>\n<p >A key player in the sixties space craze\u00a0(in all its white PVC booted, box dress wearing, avant-goggled glory) Andr\u00e9 Courr\u00e8ges\u2019s super-modern vision saw women sport clean- cut trousers, astronaut helmets and acid-hued wigs, while electric cars \u2013 made by his wife Coqueline Courr\u00e8ges \u2013 whizzed down the runways in his catwalk shows.<\/p>\n<p >With a burning desire to empower women through fashion, throughout the early 40s, Courr\u00e8ges shared brand values with Josephine Esther Mentzer, who set up her company Est\u00e9e Lauder in 1946. Over 70 years on, I\u2019m sat in a Parisian townhouse celebrating the first collaboration between the two brands:\u00a0a capsule make-up line \u2013 simply titled Est\u00e9e Lauder x Courr\u00e8ges \u2013 which will be launched in March.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p>\u201cThis development happened so fast I have whiplash,\u201d jokes Est\u00e9e Lauder\u2019s Sarah Creal, while plumping her lips with the hot pink Super Gloss that oozes from a tear shaped metal applicator. The first thing to strike me about the collection is the packaging \u2013 with not a scrap of navy or gold in sight, it\u2019s refreshingly pared-down. \u201cEst\u00e9e Lauder doesn\u2019t do anything unless it\u2019s really the best. It has to have unbelievable performance, development and know-how,\u201d she says. \u201cBut at the same time, I feel like make-up should be fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boasting 13 products in total \u2013 including the Coral Halo lip conditioner, encased in a silver ring with a squeezable centre, and the Ultrafine Liquid Liner in Lunar White that dries with a vinyl finish \u2013 the collection has the fun factor. \u201cWhen Jacques [Bungert] told me we had to do Twiggy false lashes, I thought, \u2018This is going to go down well at Est\u00e9e Lauder\u2019,\u201d says Creal, a tone of sarcasm creeping through her Manhattan accent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p >Now for the important question: which popping look does Wonderland sample from the line? Do we make like campaign girl Gabriella Wilde and go Vinyl Vixon \u2013 hair slicked green with mascara and eyes lined white? Or do we try our luck as a Modern Mod \u2013 lashes laden with mascara and puckered pout glossed pink? Whichever look you opt for, one thing\u2019s for sure: an astronaut helmet is a Courr\u00e8ges must.<\/p>\n<p ><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2015\/02\/1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45782\" alt=\"-1\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2015\/02\/1-682x1024.jpg\" \/>\u00a0<\/a> <a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45783\" alt=\"-2\"
