DEERS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Featured on pretty much every one-to-watch list going, 2015 looks set to be a massive year for Hinds (fka. Deers) \u2013 a four-piece Garage Rock outfit from Madrid.<!--more--><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2015\/02\/deers1-e1423150222412.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-44043\" alt=\"deers1\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2015\/02\/deers1-e1423150222412.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And whilst hype can often be a dangerous thing; Carlotta, Ana, Ade, and Amber are as down-to-earth and lovely as they come. And their music ain\u2019t half bad either. Arnie from The Vaccines and \u2013 as they recently learnt \u2013 Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream fame are just two of a rapidly growing army of loyal fans \u2013 unofficially known as \u2018The Hindcredibles.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>We were lucky enough to spend 20 minutes with the fantastic four-piece before a London show to talk music, touring, boys, and of course \u2013 <i>Espa\u00f1a<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><b>So you played with the Vaccines recently \u2013 how did it go?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Carlotta: It was amazing but the queue was so big \u2013 it was crazy.<br \/>\nAnna: The gig was really good though.<br \/>\nC: We decided to just drink and we ended up giving a super drunk show<br \/>\nAde: It went all right actually \u2013 I think it\u2019s one of the best gigs we\u2019ve ever done<br \/>\nC: Yeah \u2013 well we had a lot of fun! And no mistakes. Well\u2026 not that much for how drunk as we were.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mk-5w3Di0jk\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s the rest of 2015 hold for you guys?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An: Next month we\u2019re going to Bangkok and Australia.<br \/>\nC: We have like 4 or 5 dates there but we first go to Bangkok and the whole trip is like 10 days.<br \/>\nAn: We\u2019re also going to America in March for another tour. We\u2019re doing both coasts and SXSW in Austin<br \/>\nC: And Burgerama!<br \/>\nAn: We\u2019re also just starting to accept the offers from other Music Festivals but we can\u2019t say which ones just now.<\/p>\n<p><b>And can we expect any releases?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An: We have one split with The Parrots (another Madrid band).<br \/>\nC: My mum thought the split means playing together but no \u2013 they\u2019re 2 two separate singles. That\u2019s in March and our track will be produced by Arnie from The Vaccines.<br \/>\nAn: And then hopefully an LP at some point.<\/p>\n<p><b>Going back to over a year ago now &#8211; how did it all start?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>C: Well it actually has three starts. The first one was with Ana and I saying \u2018Ok \u2013 let\u2019s start a band!\u2019 And we started like that. Then we started to write songs \u2013 that was last year \u2013 and then we recorded these. We realised pretty quickly though that we needed a bass player and a drummer so we told Ade \u2013 who was our friend from before \u2013 and we gave her a bass for her birthday as a present.<\/p>\n<p><i>Ade starts to cry (whether or not this was induced by an irritating contact lens or emotional nostalgia is still up for debate)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>C: Me and Ana were friends before through our ex-boyfriends and then we met Amber on the internet via Facebook. Kind of like <i>Catfish<\/i><br \/>\nAmber: Ana added me as a friend and was like \u201cHey \u2013 are you from Madrid?\u201d \u201cHey \u2013 do you play the drums?\u201d<br \/>\nAn: I think she thought I was a lesbian at first.<\/p>\n<p><b>Are you guys going to stay as a four-piece then?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An: Yes.<br \/>\nC: Forever four.<br \/>\nAm: We might get in an orchestra for live shows one day \u2013 violin, saxophone\u2026. <i>(laughter ensues)<\/i><br \/>\nAn: I don\u2019t think we need it now but we are going to realize it if we start playing huge festivals. That\u2019s when you know if need synth sounds.<br \/>\nC: That\u2019s why a lot of bands have synths \u2013 just for big festivals. Everything sounds better with a synth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Could you ever have a boy in Hinds?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An: Boys suck.<br \/>\nC: I don\u2019t think so. Right?!<br \/>\nAn: No, no, no. No boys<br \/>\nAd: Only boys if they are dancers.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aEYs550uqnA\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>There\u2019s a bit of an underground scene in Madrid \u2013 of which Hinds are part &#8211; and only recently has the world has become aware of it \u2013 how come this is all happening now?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An: I think it\u2019s a chain \u2013 we\u2019re slowly starting to put Spain on the map. The world is starting to learn where it is in a musical sense.<br \/>\nAd: And to think we\u2019re playing a role in this; it\u2019s the nicest thing. It makes us feel very proud. You know &#8211; people used to think in Spain we only play Spanish guitars. So suddenly four girls playing Garage and everyone is like \u201cHey &#8211; where are the Palmas (<i>Flamenco Hand Clap)<\/i>?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Do you think the City in itself plays a role in the music that\u2019s coming from it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An: Yes \u2013 for sure. I mean one is the people. The whole scene that we are part of \u2013 we all show each other the music we\u2019re listening to and the music we\u2019re writing. And that comes through \u2013 Fat White was clearly found by The Parrots \u2013 you know; each new band we listen to has the one who found it and then you go and share it with your friends.<br \/>\nAd: And also the way we live in Madrid plays a part. We live so cheap, we go to cheap places, we don\u2019t pay to go into big nightclubs or anything like that. We go to small bars and drink there for cheap.<br \/>\nAn: The weather too. You can be on the street all the year. Even on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> January \u2013 you can be on the streets. I mean, I spent New Year\u2019s Eve with a can of beer and a glowstick on the street.<\/p>\n<p><b>Finally \u2013 having been around for almost a year now. What have been\u00a0 some of the highlights of the Hinds journey thus far?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>C: I really loved the moment we met Cole from Black Lips \u2013 I mean, we were so, so, so nervous because we are such big fans. And I\u2019m going to claim the snow one too! We were in Groningen and it started to snow while we were in a hot tub. That\u2019s rock\u2019n\u2019roll man -That\u2019s money!<br \/>\nAn: I think the first time we played in Copenhagen \u2013 they put our name on a theatre board outside the venue and it was so, so, big and we stood outside for like half-an-hour just staring at it. It was so, so beautiful. And then\u2026<br \/>\nAm: Meeting Mac DeMarco?<br \/>\nAn: No. I think I\u2019ll say the Lexington London show we played last year. I don\u2019t know why but it was so emotional. I thought I was going to cry backstage. The gig yesterday (at the Boston Arms) was so punk rock\u2019n\u2019roll and amazing also but that one at the Lexington was so emotional.<br \/>\nC: For the first time \u2013 we heard people singing our songs\u2026<br \/>\nAn: And louder than us!
